Last time, we introduced you to Joomla Extension Directories (JED); and in this second part, you are going to find out how to locate a specific Joomla extension on JED Search System.

JED Search is a good tool for you use to look for Joomla extensions. We recommend you use the Advanced Search for better results.

How to find a specific Joomla extension on JED?

Step 1: Access JED Advanced Search System

Click Advanced Search link. It is in the right corner of JED.

Step 2: Fill in information

Carry on with the process. You are supposed to place information provided in the fields provided. For example, I want to find a back-up extension for my Joomla 1.7 website. Let's take a look on the screenshot below:

Category: - Backup (the category which that back-up extension belongs to)

License: GPLv2 or later (I want to modify the code later on), or any other licenses, it's up to you.

Type: Non-commercial (I can download it for free)

Compatibility: 1.7 Native (as my website is Joomla 1.7 powered)

Extension Includes: Component (I want the back-up extension which contains extra components)

After that, you click Search and see the results.

Step 3: Choose a suitable extension from the Search Results

Here are my Search Results. There are eight back-up extensions in JED that fit any of my requirements.

Note: There are a couple of things that you should pay more attention to when choosing extensions. When you hit on any extension on the search result page, you will be directed to the Panel Interface of that extension. Here, the first thing is to do is take a look bemeath at the reviews from users to have an overall view of the extension quality.

If the extension gets good reviews and rates, the quality is tested by users as good.

Another thing is to notice the updated time of the product; whether this extension has been recently updated or forgotten for a long time? It is ideal if you can choose the latest version of the product, which is updated regularly by its developers.
