I am completely new to Joomla and I don't know how to distinguish a template and an extension.

2. Should I use Joomla 1.5 or Joomla 1.7 to build my website?
Currently, there are 2 versions of Joomla - Joomla 1.5 and Joomla 1.7. That confuses me: Which Joomla versions should I use to build my website?

In my opinion, you should try out Joomla 1.7 for the following reasons:
- First, to enjoy new features, report bugs (If they exist) and make suggestions to contribute to the growth of Joomla. The strength of Joomla comes from the community as you know.
- Second, if you use Joomla 1.7, you will be easier to upgrade to the next version - Joomla 2.5.
- And lastly, currently quite a lot of templates and extensions support Joomla 1.7.
However, if your favorite extensions still support Joomla 1.5 only (VirtueMart for example), you should consider this carefully - stick with Joomla 1.5 or switch to similar extensions that support Joomla 1.7.

3. If I switch to use another Joomla template, will the current information be lost?
I used a template to build a website. Now I want to change to another template. Do I need to rebuild my website from the scratch again?

No and Yes.
- No: You won't lose all databases such as articles, menus, users and so on.
- Yes: Unfortunately, if you have made some CSS changes such as color customization or width changes, they will be lost.

4. Can I edit Joomla templates?
I like a template. But I still want to make some changes such as the color of the background and menus. Is it possible?

5. How to place an internal article to another article?
I know how to link to a page outside of my website (an external link). But I don't know how to link to another page in my website (an internal link). How to do it?
Answer:
Let's consider that in the article A, you need to link to article B. Both article A and B are in your website.
- You copy the URL of article B. It looks like "index.php?option=com_content§ionid=-1&task=edit&cid[]=XX". "XX" is the ID of the article.
- For example, B is the article 43. Its URL is "index.php?option=com_content§ionid=-1&task=edit&cid[]=43"
- You open article A:
- Select the title text (anchor text) for the article B
- Click the icon
on the Editor Toolbar - Paste the URL of article B to "Link URL"
- Click on the button "Insert" on the Editor Toolbar

6. How to remove article directories?
I don't want sub-article directories to be displayed. How can I remove that?
Answer:
You go to "Menu Manager" -> "Your menu" -> The article you want to get rid of it -> Tab "Page Display Option" -> You set the parameter "Show Page Heading" as No.
7. How to play a Youtube video on my Joomla website?
I want to insert a Youtube video into my website. Is it possible?

There are 2 ways to stream a Youtube video on your website:
- Direct:
- You go to the Youtube video which you want to steam on your website, click on the button "Share" to copy the embed code.
- You go to the Joomla backend -> "User manager" -> Choose your username -> Set "Editor" as None to turn off the Editor.
- You go to the article, paste the embed code there.
- Save the article.
- Indirect: You stream your videos via Video Players extensions; JPlayer for example. You will get more features such as Video playlist, single video with preview and so on.

8. How to remove or change the "Welcome to the FrontPage" title of the website?
There is the "Welcome to the FrontPage" title on my website. How to remove or change that?

- You go to Menus -> Main menu -> Home -> Parameter (System)
- You change the "Page Title" parameter or set "Show Page Title" as No to turn off it.

One thing that could be added to point 3 is that some of your menu's and other modules might seem to disappear when you change your template.
A lot of templates have different names for their module positions, so you should remember to change all of the affected module positions and your site will be perfect again

Thank you so much for coming up with this comprehensive all-in-one article! I am indeed a newbie with Joomla and you have collated almost all of the answers to the basic questions that I need to know before starting to design my website. I also would like to know how to insert videos to my website and also to adjoin voiceovers into those videos and get them to play on my site.
