  • Which purchase type should you choose?

Basically, there are two purchase types: Single and Subscription.

    • Single purchase: You should choose this type if you just need some images to present on your website and this is not frequent need.
    • Subscription plan: This is an economic choice if you have a big need to use images on web designing or email marketing decorating. You can download bundle of photos in a certain time.
  • What are the main differences between image licenses: Royalty-free, Rights-managed and Editorial?
    • Royalty-free: You pay once and can use the images unlimited times without duration restriction.
    • Rights-managed: Are the opposite of Royalty-free images. You can use an image with some restrictions such as duration, purpose and so on.
    • Editorial: Is a form of rights-managed license. An editorial photo can be only used for non-commercial purposes. So if you need photo to describe your magazine article or blog post, choose this license.

We bought ten photos!

JSN Tendo, one of our templates, is designed mainly for Joomla photography, portfolio websites. That is, we need some Royal-Free images to present on its demo website. These photos should be about girls, look artistic and colorful. They definitely should be reasonably priced.

Choosing photos

To me, this process takes the most time. On each photo resource, I spent about one hour and a half searching.

  • Searching:
    • Keywords: I used keywords "fashion model" , "fashion" , "model", "nature woman", "flowers" + "woman", "gorgeous","beauty", "beautiful", "colorful woman", "beauty in nature", "joy" + "woman", "smiling" + "woman".
    • Filter: Photo type, horizontal orientation, slowest price range.
    • Size: Small size.
  • Results:
    • Ten photos at Shutterstock cost $49 with the "On demand subscription" plan, 12 Downloads, for small & medium JPEG sizes only.
    • Ten photos at iStockPhoto cost 40 credits (About $60).
    • At Dreamstime, ten photos I chose are priced at 38 credits. So Credit package of 52 credits ($49.99) is the best choice.
    • Purchasing images at GettyImages a reasonable price seems to be an impossible task since images there are expensive. The ten chosen images are $300.
    • Images at CorbisImages look very professional. And, price for ten nice images is $706.

Purchasing photos

I considered a little bit, finally chose to buy iStockphoto since photos here are at an affordable price and are most suitable for our needs. Purchasing process happens quickly. Right after choosing to buy a photo, I can download it, and there is a message telling me that I can download it several times within 24 hours after purchasing.

Do you want to have a look at the photos I chose? They are here, on JSN Tendo demo.

Conclusion

As far as I can see, you should visit iStockPhoto and DreamsTime first since the prices there are reasonable whether you want to buy a small or a large number of photos. The prices at ShutterStock are only acceptable if you buy a large number of photos. And photos at GettyImages and CorbisImages are quite expensive, especially CorbisImages.
